Church of England Daily Prayer

cross

Welcome! Below you’ll find links to the daily prayers from the Church of England. These prayers are here to support you wherever you are in your day—whether you’re seeking a peaceful start to the morning, a reflective pause in the afternoon, or a moment of calm before bedtime.

Each prayer offers a chance to connect with God, reflect on your life, and find comfort or inspiration. They are simple to follow, yet rich in meaning, and can become a meaningful part of your daily routine. We invite you to explore them at your own pace, letting these prayers guide your thoughts, nourish your spirit, and bring a sense of calm and focus to your day. Alongside these daily prayers, we also share a monthly prayer list with a different focus for each day, helping us to pray intentionally for the people, places and needs of our local community. This can be used together with the Church of England's Daily prayer, offering a simple way to root our prayers in both our shared church rhythm and the life of the community around us. The prayer list is shown below and can also be downloaded by clicking here.

Stations of the Cross

stations of the crossThe Stations of the Cross are a prayerful journey through the final moments of Jesus’ life, from his condemnation to his death and burial. Rooted in the Gospel accounts, the Stations invite us to walk alongside Christ, reflecting on his suffering, love, and faithfulness, and to consider how his journey speaks into our own lives and the world around us.

Each station offers a moment to pause — to pray, to reflect, and to listen. As we move from one station to the next, we engage not only our minds but our bodies, allowing prayer to become something we walk through rather than simply read. The Stations create space for honesty before God, making room for grief, compassion, repentance, and hope.

Traditionally prayed during Lent and especially during Holy Week, the Stations of the Cross help us to slow down and attend to the reality of the cross — not as a distant event, but as something that continues to shape faith, justice, and love today. They invite us to bring our own burdens, questions, and prayers into conversation with the story of Jesus’ journey.

You can access the Stations using our downloadable leaflet (available here), which includes scripture, reflections, and prayers for each station. You are encouraged to explore the Stations in your own time and to incorporate them into your personal prayer life throughout Lent and beyond, returning to them as often as you wish.

During Lent and Holy Week, the Stations of the Cross will also be available to pray in the church, set out in a way that allows you to move at your own pace in quiet reflection. More information about when the Stations will be available and how they will be offered at Freedom Church Mereside can be found on the Special Events page.
