Holy Week at Freedom Church

flower crossHoly Week is the most significant week in the Christian calendar, as we journey with Jesus through the final days of his life, from his arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the joy of the resurrection on Easter morning. Throughout the week we will gather in a variety of ways — through worship, shared meals, prayer, and quiet reflection — to remember the events at the heart of the Christian faith.

Here you’ll find details of everything that’s happening during Holy Week at Freedom Church, and our Facebook page will also share updates and reminders throughout the week. Whether you are part of our church community or simply curious to explore the meaning of Easter, you are very welcome to join us for any of these events as we walk together through the story of Holy Week.

An Overview of our Services

Sunday 29th March 2:30pm

Join us as we begin Holy Week together with a Palm Sunday Holy Communion service. This special service remembers Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem and marks the start of the journey towards Easter. Through worship, prayer, scripture, and communion we reflect on the hope and significance of this moment in the Christian story. Everyone is welcome to come and share in this meaningful time as we prepare our hearts for the events of Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday maundy thursday

Thursday 2nd April 6pm

On Maundy Thursday we gather for an evening of Feast and Fellowship as we remember the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples. This will be a relaxed and welcoming time to eat together, reflect, and share community while thinking about the themes of service, love, and humility that Jesus showed on that night. It’s a simple but meaningful way to spend time together during Holy Week.

Friday 3rd April 12pm

Come along on Good Friday for a simple lunch together at 12pm, followed by a time of reflection through interactive Stations of the Cross. These are the same prayer stations that are available every Friday during Lent and every day throughout Holy Week, and can be found in Lighthouse for anyone who would like to spend time reflecting and praying. The stations invite people of all ages to pause, pray, and thoughtfully engage with the events of Good Friday and the meaning of the cross.

Holy Saturday Vigilvigil
Saturday 4th April 6pm- Sunday 6:15am

Beginning at 6pm on Holy Saturday, we will hold an overnight Easter Vigil as we wait and watch together through the night. This is not a structured service but a quiet time where people are welcome to come and go, spending time in prayer, reading scripture, or simply sitting in stillness as we anticipate the joy of the resurrection. The vigil continues through the night and leads into the Sunrise Service on Easter morning.

Sunday 5th April 6:15am

Celebrate the joy of Easter morning with our Sunrise Service at 6:15am. As the day begins, we gather to rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus and the hope that Easter brings. It is a simple but powerful way to mark the moment when darkness gives way to light and death to life. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for breakfast together with bacon or sausage barms and a chance to enjoy fellowship as we celebrate this joyful day as a church community.
